1 Screening mammography examination: Mammography examinations indicated by the radiogist to be for screening with bilateral views done and no other mammogram within the past 9 months among women without breast implants or a prior breast cancer diagnosis.

2 Cancers = The number of examinations with a tissue diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in situ or invasive cancer within 1 year following the examination and before the next screening mammography examination.

3 Cancer rate (per 1,000 examinations) = The number of cancers among 1,000 screening mammography examinations.

4 Cancer detection rate (per 1,000 examinations) = The number of cancers among 1,000 screening mammography examinations with a positive interpretation (BI-RADS category 0, 3 with a recommendation for immediate follow-up, 4, or 5).
